A.W.A.R.E. GROUP
The A.W.A.R.E (A Women's Anger Reduction and Empowerment) Group is a 36-week long evidenced-based program designed for women who have used forceful or violent behavior towards intimate partners or family members. Open to both court ordered and voluntary participants, the program covers a variety of relevant topics to assist group members in developing valuable insight and cultivating positive change. Group participants are encouraged to take ownership of their actions and lives, and move towards a future in alignment with healthy and meaningful relationships with others. This program is grounded on the belief that women who use non-self-defensive physical force against their intimate partners – be they domestic violence survivors or not – are putting themselves and others at greater risk of harm and, therefore, need contextualized advocacy, support, and intervention. Topics covered include:

-
Identifying forceful and violent behaviors
-
The impact of domestic violence on individuals, families, and children
-
Accountability and responsibility
-
Healthy relationships
-
Cultural and social influences
-
Emotional regulation and anger management
-
Substance use and violence
-
Conflict resolution and effective communication
-
Safety planning
Groups are held on a weekly basis online via a HIPAA compliant video conferencing platform.
